Medical Surgical Certification Exam
The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) is developing a national certification exam in medical-surgical nursing for licensed/registered practical nurses (LPNs). The development of this new exam is being done in collaboration with the Canadian Association of Medical and Surgical Nurses (CAMSN).
To develop the exam, 30 subject matter experts (LPNs) are required.
NNPBC is pleased to offer this opportunity for our members to participate. To check to see if you’re a member, or to join, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
What will be involved?
The new exam will be available in November 2020. Over the next approximately 18 months, interested medical-surgical LPNs from across Canada will participate in a variety of activities in collaboration with CNA and psychometric experts from Yardstick Assessment Strategies (YAS). Participating in exam development is a wonderful opportunity for LPNs to network with colleagues and learn about the rigorous exam development process.
The proposed timeline for the new exam development is:
- Item writing groups: January 15 - 17, 2020 (3 days) and February 10 - 12, 2020 (3 days)
- Exam validation committee: June 1 - 5, 2020 (5 days)
All travel and lodging expenses are covered by CNA.
